Delete your account

You can delete your Rift account yourself, at any time, from the app or the web app. Deleting it can't be undone.

How to delete it

  1. Open Rift on your phone or computer, or go to web.joinrift.app and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Account & backup.
  3. Under Rift account, choose Delete account, type your password, and confirm.

The account is deleted straight away.

Can't sign in any more? Email support@joinrift.app from the address on the account and say which username to delete. Because anyone can fake the sender of an email, I first reply to the account's address and delete it only once you confirm from there. Then it's deleted within 30 days, and I tell you when it's done.

What is deleted

Copies in Rift's disaster-recovery backups expire on their own within 30 days.

One exception: if Rift's moderators had banned the account from listing in the directory, I keep a one-way hash of its email address and the addresses of the servers it listed, so the ban still applies if they come back.

What is not deleted

Rift servers are run by other people, and your membership in them isn't part of your Rift account. Deleting the account doesn't remove you from any server, or delete what you wrote there. To leave a server, right-click it (or hold it on a phone) and choose Leave server. For anything else on a server, ask the person who runs it.

Your servers and keys also stay on your device. To remove those, uninstall the app, or use Reset vault in the same settings page.

See the privacy policy for everything Rift stores.
